S/PDIF output

If we output the audio portion of controlled content to an S/PDIF output, do we have to have SCMS active?

Ideally yes you should have SCMS on the SPDIF, especially if you want to output "controlled content" on the SPDIF.
If you choose not to have SCMS, you would have to disable the SPDIF output for EMI not equal to ‘0x00’ or RCT equal to ‘0x0’.
