Why do I need CI Plus? What are the benefits?

- To be compatible with future CI Plus modules that can deliver enhanced functionality, such as High Definition pay TV, in conjunction with pay TV operators.
- In the case of subscribers of services from CI Plus operators, they will have the opportunity to buy TV and Recording devices with built in functionality. They do not need STBs any more, so the usability of watching/recording content provided by the operator will become much more user-friendly.

When can I buy a TV / STB with CI Plus?

- It is expected that products equipped with CI Plus may be available early in 2009.

Will digital recorders be available with CI Plus?

- There is nothing to prevent digital recorders (Hard Disc, or DVD or Blu-ray) implementing CI Plus, but it is up to operators to decide what content can be recorded.
- There is likely to be some content which is prohibited to store on removable media

I have a TV (STB) with a CI slot. Can I upgrade it to CI Plus?

- Generally speaking, such upgrade is not possible due to the process of encryption which is required by CI Plus and which is not required by current CI.

Will my existing DVB-CI module work with my new TV (STB) supporting CI Plus?

- CI Plus specification is an add-on to DVB-CI standard. DVB-CI module will work with CI Plus TV. But the module will not give access to content which requires CI Plus enhanced security

How can I tell if my TV / STB has a CI Plus?

- It is expected that promotional activities between operators and manufacturers will create messages in stores when products are available.
- However, the CI Plus logo as seen on this website will also be used to indicate this feature on products.
